The National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos” (NCSRD) is the largest multidisciplinary research center in Greece, ranked among the best in Europe, with high level expertise and advanced infrastructure in the fields of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials, Energy & Environment, Biosciences, Nuclear and Particle Physics, Informatics & Telecommunications.
Role in the Project
NCSRD, will have the main role in the management activities of the project and will be responsible for the relationship with the European Commission. NCSRD will chair the General Assembly, which has the highest authority to define and adopt the necessary measures in order to ensure that the project progresses properly.

The National Research Council (CNR) is the largest Public Research Institution in Italy performing multidisciplinary activities. More than 8.000 employees, of whom more than half are researchers and technologists, are distributed between the Head Quarter in Rome (central legal & administrative site) and the 109 Institutes located throughout Italy. In this project, CNR participates with the Institute on Membrane Technology (ITM – Istituto per la Tecnologia delle Membrane).
Role in the Project
CNR-ITM will be in charge of the testing at laboratory scale and selection of the ion exchange membranes (IEMs), for the RED-MD/MCr prototype. Using real and simulated solutions the electrochemical properties (ionic resistance and permeselctivity) of the IEMs will be investigated to predicit their performance in salinity gradient harvesting. The most performing membranes will be tested in laboratory scale SGP-RED system to select the better membrane pair for scale-up in the Case study 2. The CNR-ITM will be also involved in the testing and selection of the membranes for the MD/MCr unit of the prototype.

The Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (National Centre for Scientific Research) is a government-funded research organisation, under the administrative authority of France’s Ministry of Research. EFD also collaborates with the Innovation Lab of Warrant Hub, that has a long experience in market surveys and studies, technological audits and scouting, IP management, market penetration studies (especially for new materials and processes).

Role in the Project
The University of Birmingham will develop high-recovery desalination and water purification systems based on the batch Reverse Osmosis (batch RO) principle. Laboratory units optimized to suit the targets application will be constructed at laboratory scale (1 m3/hr output) and the technology will be transferred to the industrial partners participating in the case studies, enabling pilot units (5 m3/hr output) to be constructed.

Fuelics PC is a deep tech startup R&D company with a prototyping and production plant in Greece. Fuelics was launched as a company in July 2019 and since then has stirred its interest in the industrialization of Low Power Wide Area Network Sensors, mainly using NBIoT protocol and various industrial protocols such as ModBus, M2M and others and piloted the first ever Diesel Management Sensor for stationary fuel tanks. Since the first industrial sensor, Fuelics delivered a series of LWPAN sensors for utility networks, the Smart City initiative and the Agrotech.
