We are excited to share a new scientific publication by our partners, titled “Computational Fluid Dynamics Modelling and Optimization of Solar Powered Direct Contact Membrane Distillation with Localized Heating for Off-Grid Desalination.”
This study focuses on optimizing solar-powered membrane distillation (MD) to address temperature polarization issues. Using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling, the research explores fluid behavior, heat, and mass transfer within the system. Key findings reveal that under optimal conditions, the setup can produce 12 liters of drinking water per day, meeting the basic needs of six people, with over 70% efficiency.
This advancement represents a significant step in developing efficient, off-grid desalination systems.
